As a stylist and business owner I’ve learned that in order to succeed you have to learn to dance beautifully in the box you are most uncomfortable in.

10 yrs ago I would have never been posting photos of myself. 10 yrs ago I did not think I would own a hair salon much less a hairline and to be sharing my knowledge on curly hair uhmmm NEVER. 10 yrs ago I worked hard as a hair stylist but the opportunities of today really did not exist then.

10 yrs ago my children were ages 10, 7, 3 &2. I was extremely busy with them and very lucky my husband is now and was then very hands on with our family. I had help from my mom too. To get to work was the easy part of my day to be quite honest. Then I decided to open Adored Salon and for the most part things ran smooth and well.

Three years ago I started Adored Signature Handtied Hair. The big “C” hit and things went south. The salon lost 4 out six service providers. I was left with myself and styling_by_jackiekayy with curls.by.chloe in training. We worked our asses off and kept things a float.

Quickly looks_by_celia and hairbyalyssawolff came on as stylists.

I was told by several stylists that I needed to start educating on curly for hair extensions. It took me a while to wrap my brain around the “how” of it all but I figured it out.

I am often asked how I do it all. I kind of look puzzled when people say that. I am sure because I feel like it’s just normal to sleep 6 hrs and run like crazy for 18. It’s how I function best I guess.

Do I have anxiety? The answer is yes. But I honestly don’t find that to be a bad thing because that anxiety pushes me to do more and be better. I get anxious before meetings, I don’t like confrontation, classes give me butterflies, my house can be a total disaster at times. My children have all worked with me starting at age 12 because I believe you need to learn how to earn a dollar and have a strong work ethic but also it gives me an opportunity to be with them when I normally would not be. So I guess that one is a bit selfish.

Last week I taught for the 8th time with madsthehairfairy. I shared every last detail of my curly knowledge with her.

Today’s nugget… Do what scares you the most. You will be so proud of yourself once you have walked through the fear.
