I created my Adored Signature Hand Tied Hair Extensions line because I wasn’t happy with the quality of hair that I was purchasing for my clients. I did my research and developed a partnership with an Indian Temple to secure the highest quality of hair extensions in three different textures.
As a curly girl, I have worked with curls all my life. From cutting and styling my own hair to specializing in all things curls for my clients.
It goes without saying that curls require a much different approach when cutting and styling than straight hair. When you factor in extensions it is even more important that you are educated every step of the way to achieve the perfect look.
Which is why I have created my Curly Certification program. If you are a stylist who works with curly extensions, you cannot miss out on the opportunity to learn all there is to know about stitching, cutting and blending and styling.
So what does a one-on-one education day look like?
It starts with a phone consultation 4 weeks prior to the education day. During this call we will discuss what is most important for you to learn on that day so that I can create a customized day of education.
After the consultation call, we will send you 4 wefts of the Adored Signature Hand Tied Hair extensions to install, creating a nice density to learn the cutting process.
Your day will begin with me at 9am and we jump right into the curly cutting process. I will give you the tips and tricks on how to best cut and blend the extensions. It’s extremely important that the extensions are blended properly because natural hair has a tendency to spring up and the extensions hang. Without proper blending you will get a mushroom look which no one wants!
In addition, when working with curly hair you are often dealing with multiple textures so learning the proper cutting technique helps you to create more curl within the extensions.
After cutting we move on to stitching. I am certified in multiple methods so I have a basic understanding of most of them. Over the past several years I have worked to troubleshoot stitching and the problems that can occur to be able to create stitching so clean it is invisible. You will get subtle tips and tricks that you can use with any method.
I want to emphasize that stitching is so important with curly extensions because of the potential of the hair dragging between stitches, creating a loop. This is problematic because when brushed through it can create knots causing the extensions to crawl and matte. In my experience 9 times out of 10 problems with extensions can be related directly back to the stitching.
We will also take time to go over the proper method for folding the wefts because ours are much longer. Standard wefts are 10 – 12 inches wide. Our 18 inch hair ranges in width from 16 – 20 inches. The width of the wefts for 22 inch hair shrink because the weight is taken up in the length of the hair. Our 26 inch hair wefts are about 12 inches wide.
There is a secret to folding them that creates equal density. This doesn’t happen by just folding in half. Also, by using the proper folding technique it allows you to do some really cool things with color.
Then we will move onto styling. Proper styling is key when dealing with curly hair and without the right products and techniques the curls won’t look their best! The entire product line we use is devoted to keeping curly hair look the best and as you learn how to style you will see it for yourself!
We’ll take some time to take a closer look at the curl types in the various colors because the color can impact the curl patterns.
Did you know that coloring curly hair is different than coloring straight hair? I’ll give you tips on things to look out for and how you can best achieve beautiful colors.
At the end of the day you will receive your Curly Certification and take home your own guide from the experience.
Being in the industry for 30 years I have done quite a few different things including owning my own salon for the past 9 years. This is a perfect day for you to pick my brain on all things curly, how to grow a salon, ideas for mentoring staff, growing your social presence and more!
I recognize we all learn differently so I also have the option for a large group class. The class is limited to 10 people and we will cover everything above but it’s more of a look and learn experience.
